Case Study: Oil & Gas Industry - Digital Transformation
“This project was a great example of how a new technology can make an instant impact on a business. We saved this company a lot of money - and unlike some cost containment efforts, quality went up instead of down.” - Ray Milhem
Our mid-size client was struggling with their plans to introduce “Digital Twin” (sometimes referred to as IIoT or Industry 4.0). Our team worked with their CIO and VP of Engineering to first understand their business needs and Infrastructure (e.g.: pipelines, drilling systems, back office, Data Center, etc…). Then our team started providing architecture and a study for a scalable platform on a Hybrid Cloud. This will enable them to handle all the millions of messages that are coming from the field via IoT sensors embedded in gas lines, drilling systems, processing units, etc.
A careful analysis of what was originally planned (for the drilling systems) as they were designed using various CAD, CAE and PLM systems vs. comparison with the real-life data received from the drilling systems (predictive analytics) proved to be very useful.
Budget: Not disclosed. Our team delivered the proposal and handed it over to the IT & Engineering team on time and on budget.
Purpose: Cost reduction, improve performance, scalability, and higher ROI on Tech investment and faster TTM (Time To Market).
Outcome:
This Oil & Gas company benefited greatly from this analysis and is planning to implement it using a Hybrid Cloud in their US & Asian locations in the next 2-3 years.
